Psychotherapy is primarily a talk-based therapy and is intended to help people improve and maintain their mental health and well-being. It occurs when the therapist and client enter into a psychotherapeutic relationship where both work together to bring about positive change in the client’s thinking, feeling, behaviour and social functioning.
As in any relationship, it varies depending on the personalities of the therapist and the client, as well as the particular problems you bring forward.
My practice is based in the Humanistic-Existential approach. It emphasizes each person’s own capacity to make rational choices and develop to their maximum potential, focusing on free will, self-determination, and the search for meaning. I also use techniques drawn from other schools of thought such as CBT, DBT, behavioural, and mindfulness-based approaches. This flexibility allows me to adapt to each client’s individual needs.
In case you have never been in therapy before, it might take some time until you feel comfortable to discuss difficult topics or times in your life. I will help you navigate these initial challenges with care and respect, as we will both actively work together to choose what to discuss, as well as find meaning and possible changes to the difficulties you are facing.
Remember that what you share in therapy will be kept confidential and I am not in a position to judge any aspects of your past or present life. Our primary goals will be to reduce feelings of distress, increase satisfaction in interpersonal relationships, gain personal awareness and insight.
Online sessions are an excellent option for those who live in remote areas, have mobility issues, a tight schedule to attend an in-person appointment or simply wish to see their therapist from the comfort of their home.
As long as you have a good internet connection and a place where you have enough privacy and will not be interrupted, the dynamics of an online session tend to be similar to an in-person meeting.
The feeling of privacy and confidentiality are integral components of the therapy process. Meeting in person in an office can enhance these aspects, but rest assured that the attention and care in an online session are guaranteed on the therapist's end.
Please note that online sessions are not a crisis based clinical service. This means that depending on the kind of issues that you are facing and wish to discuss in therapy, the therapist may recommend that therapy is conducted in person.
The standard fee for a 50-minute session is $160.00+HST

A sliding scale fee may be available, on a limited-time basis, for clients paying out-of-pocket. To seek reimbursement from an insurance company you must pay for the full fee.
Payments are accepted by e-transfer and credit/debit cards.
